Jessica found me through the Outdoor Ceremonies directory and from our initial telephone conversation we hit it off. Jessica is a very accomplished screenwriter, and she knew exactly what she wanted for their ceremony at Penshurst Place – a whimsical wedding ceremony to celebrate their love for each other, for all things magical and which set the scene for the rest of the day.
"From our very first call, she was so warm and engaged, brilliantly guiding us through the process of shaping the wedding ceremony into something that felt deeply personal for both of us."
Jessica, Bride
Penshurst Place is steeped in history and has many wonderful spaces. Originally the plan was to hold their outdoor ceremony by the lakeside but due to a long period of rain in the run up to the day, the decision was taken to relocate to the Nut Garden. It could not have been a better decision; the Nut Garden is the perfect space for an outdoor ceremony, surrounded by trees and hedges to envelop the proceedings whilst also providing a magical setting which felt full of romantic charm. The covered walkway around the perimeter was the perfect aisle for Jessica and her Dad to make their entrance, accompanied by Estilo string quartet.
The day was littered with personal touches; the order of service booklets were designed by Ben to look like well-worn books, gummy bears were gifted to each guest as a little ceremony sweet treat and the ceremony space was filled with romantic, whimsical blooms by the amazing Fen Florals.
The ceremony itself was full of wonderful readings performed by the couple’s friends, four in total, which came from childhood favourites, blogs and TV shows all celebrating their shared love of stories. Each elicited a different reaction from the guests and there were moments of laughter amongst the pull of heartfelt emotions.
Of course, the central story was their own. We shared how they met, how they made each other feel and their hopes and dreams for their future together, allowing their guests a greater insight into their connection and their reasons for choosing each other for life.
When it came to their vows, the Ben and Jessica chose not to write their own and instead opted to share traditional promises which they both felt resonated with them. They felt the history and tradition of so many couples before them having shared those same words held a lot of weight and importance.
It all came together in a personal a meaningful ceremony which perfectly suited the couple. We set the scene for the rest of the celebrations that were to follow in a magical irreverent way, putting Jessica and Ben at the very heart of it all.
The day was expertly photographed by Lee Allison Photography.
"She has a wonderful energy and always made us feel happy and calm - both in the planning stages and on the big day. Would highly recommend."
