I first met Ryan and Jasper at a wedding fair, where we immediately connected. It was a little while after that that they secured their chosen venue (Lewes Castle) and got back in touch to book me as their celebrant!
"She's such a bubbly, kind and delightful person, and really made us feel valued and special right from our first interaction with her."
Ryan and Jasper
Ryan and Jasper knew all along that they wanted their wedding day to be super personal, they were filling the day with personal touches, things they had made themselves and so much love.
Â
When it came to their ceremony they wanted to share an insight into their relationship that others may not have seen before. To enable me to do this, they were both really open in sharing their stories with me, both as individuals and as a couple. We built a really wonderful connection and I was able to write a ceremony which shared their stories, their hopes, fears and dreams.
Â
They also wanted it to be really fun and colourful and their guests certainly got the memo…Jasper’s Mum is quite possibly the most fun and colorful Mother of the Groom I have ever had the pleasure to meet!
With the fact that they wanted all their friends and family to be involved in their ceremony rather than just spectators, we set about creating a really inclusive ceremony which included:
Â
Aisle walk and giving away – Ryan and Jasper chose to both walk down the aisle, each accompanied by one of their parents. We altered the traditional ‘giving away’ wording, instead asking each parent if they, as representatives of their respective families, supported their sons in marrying each other (spoiler – Ryan’s Dad wept happy, proud tears from beginning to end!).
Â
Ring warming – at the very beginning of their ceremony we set their rings off on a journey around all of those present, inviting them to take a moment while holding them to fill them with their love, blessings and best wishes. By the time the couple exchanged rings, they were back down near the front where we needed them and when each placed a ring on the other’s hand they felt not only the love of their new husband but of all their most important people.
Â
Personal vows – Ryan and Jasper wrote their own vows and they needed very little input from me. They both spoke from their hearts and there wasn’t a dry eye!!!
Â
Communal vow – after sharing their vows with each other, I asked all their special people whether they would support them, champion them and be there for them when they needed it the most. This communal vow highlighted the web of support that is needed around all marriages throughout the years.
Â
Fingerprint certificate – Ryan and Jasper wanted to sign a commemorative certificate during their ceremony and we decided that it would be a lovely opportunity to create a lasting memory of their day and all who were present. It was signed by each of them and their witnesses during the ceremony. Then following the ceremony, each of their guests was invited to place their fingerprint around the tree graphic that was on it – the result was a tree blossoming with the love of all their most special people, to be treasured for a lifetime.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Lewes Castle, Ryan and Jasper’s was a joyful, heartfelt ceremony which wrapped everyone present into the meaning and gravity of what these two were promising to each other. There was SO much love for these two very special humans and it was palpable as everyone present watched them commit to each other for life and all eternity. It set them all up for all the celebrations that were to follow.
This is certainly one I will never forget.
All the colour, love and emotion of the day was captured beautifully by Simon Booth.
"We've received so many compliments from our guests, many have said it was the best wedding they've ever been to, and Beth really made the day what it was!"
